Day 62

Painted faces for Halloween!

I've had some unopened face paint lying around for a couple years.  Since it was Halloween, I decided to finally try it out, and luckily, my sister was willing to be the guinea pig.  There was a booklet with steps showing how to make the skull face.  When I finished my sister's face, I decided to do my own as well.

There was another beautiful sky on the way home from work!

Day 61

I did some more scribble drawings today.  The blue ink was the original scribble.

Apparently I have Christmas on my mind...

I'm really fortunate that the sun sets at the same time that I drive home from work.

Day 60

"When you send it flying up there,
All at once you're lighter than air.
You can dance on the breeze,
Over houses and trees,
With your first holding tight
To the string of your kite."

At work, I share a register with two other people.  Often we'll have the same drawer each day, but sometimes we'll have a different one.  When that happens, I tend to press the button for the drawer I usually have instead of the one I have for that day.  Today I drew a little picture and put it over the button for the drawer to help me remember which drawer was mine.

Day 59

I thought the Halloween card that my nephew received was so cute, that I decided to make a construction paper version of it, too.  (In addition to the drawing from Day 58.)

I couldn't decide if I wanted a background color or not...

During the process of making it, I realized I was using some happy glue!

I loved how the scraps looked when I finished.

I also was able to paint a little with my nephew today!

I can tell he's talented already :)

Day 58

This year will be the first Halloween for my nephew.  He got a card in the mail with a super cute picture on it.  I decided to draw it.

Here is the adorable card from which I got the picture:

Day 57

MARIO!

The sky was gorgeous on my way home from work.

Day 56 (October 25th)

At work, I had a little free time while it was slow.  I drew a couple of dogs.  I love animals, and I'm hoping to get a dog again soon.

I think Blue is a neat name for a dog.

Day 55

I drew Wilma from The Flintstones!

I also took a picture of the beautiful sky this morning.

Day 54

I had an art night tonight with a good friend.  She decided to drew a moose (which turned out so great!), but I didn't really have a plan.  My friend pulled out a box with lots of goodies for making art.  Going through the box inspired me.  I used some stickers and paper letters as well as the letter punch set that I have and made this:

When I got home, I was able to take a picture of a bug.  They aren't out around as much now that it's colder, so I was happy this little guy was around.

Day 53

I feel really cold sometimes, and the temperature of my fingers confirms that I actually am cold.

One benefit to being so cold is that, at night, I get to bundle up in my warm blankets and feel so wonderfully cozy.  I love it!

Day 51

I always thought that goldfish were boring pets.  I guess that was because I didn't know much about them.  This website has an interesting and very informative article.  Here are some highlights:

"Goldfish are also quite trainable. They can learn to swim through hoops, ring bells, and pull levers for food. In a lever experiment involving goldfish, they were even able to realize within an hour that if the lever stopped producing, it wasn’t worth pulling anymore."

"When properly cared for, goldfish will not stop growing. Most fishes are in fact what are known as indeterminate growers. This means that, unlike humans, they grow until they die."

"Goldfish are actually some of the longest-lived fishes you can purchase. They are capable for living several decades under the right conditions, and the supposed record is 49 years of age."

"Originally, goldfish looked very much like commons do, with the exception being the orange color we see today, which was more of an olive color."

Orange is my favorite color, so I'm definitely glad for their current color :)

Day 50!

I bought a kit to make your own paper a while back and decided to try it out with my niece and nephew.

There's a lot of patience involved, which is pretty tough for most kids, but they still had fun.  Yesterday, we ripped some newspaper into small pieces and let the strips soak overnight in a bowl of water.  Then today, we finished the rest and let the homemade paper dry.

At first I thought the paper seemed pretty dark, but it dried considerably lighter.  Next time I'll have to add more food coloring, because you can't even the notice the green I put in.  I'll also experiment more with adding bits of color and maybe leaves or something.

Day 49

Forty-nine days and I'm finally painting!  It started with a painting party with my niece and nephew.

We painted for probably an hour.  They would've kept going, but it was time for them to go to bed.

The top one (below) is Minnie Mouse by my niece who's only 6.  She even made the eyelashes.  I'm so proud of her!

After letting them jump on the bed for a while (I love being an aunt!) and telling them a good night story, I got inspired to paint more.  The colors my niece, nephew, and I had used reminded me of the painting by Henri de Toulous-Lautrec that my roommate from college told me about.

I used the drawing I had started on Day 23 and projected it on to a piece of cardboard.  Then I started painting.

It felt great to be mixing colors and actually painting again.  I'm looking forward to more of it!

Day 48

I finished the key holder today.  I added the sawtooth hanger on the back and even hung it on the wall to see how it looked.

My desire to paint is getting stronger.  I don't think it'll be long before I finally bust out those acrylics.

Day 47

There was a pepper sitting on the counter in our kitchen.  It reminded me of something...

I painted the letters grey for the key holder and glued them on.

I liked how the cardboard looked after I used it to paint the letters.

I also sprayed on a sealer and used a fan to dry it.

All that's left to do is add a sawtooth hanger on the back and it's finished!

Day 46

The sky was so beautiful tonight.  There was a bit of rainbow in the clouds.

As the sun went down farther, the clouds had such a smokey feel to them.

I did a lot of reading today, which was really nice.  Later, I helped a friend put up some circle decorations on the wall in her office.  Afterwards, we went out to dinner and there was a marching band playing inside the restaurant!  I wish I had taken a picture of that, but I'm glad I was able to get the pictures of the sunset.
